A FORMER Stroud resident who is 50 this year will be cycling an incredible 1,000 miles throughout the year to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Rich Mason, who was born in Stroud, will be riding through his hometown as part of his epic journey this summer.

He was inspired to raise money for Cancer Research UK after being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at the age of 27.

After a long battle with cancer, he was given the all clear in 1997, and is now raising money for those going through the same fight.

Rich, who grew up in Stroud and attended Maidenhill School, Stonehouse and Stroud College said: “My challenge is to say a massive thank-you to Cancer Research. Without their funding, I would not be here today.”

He has already cycled 156 miles and raised almost £700 for the charity, but is hoping to reach the £1,000 mark by the end of his marathon ride.

Rich works at the Land Registry in Leicester, where he lives with his partner Helen, their nine-year-old son Josh and Alfie the Jack Russell.
