STAR of Blackadder and Time Team Sir Tony Robinson visited Stroud on Tuesday April 14 to throw his support behind Labour’s candidate for the General Election, David Drew.
The presenter, historian and Labour party campaigner met members of the public in Stonehouse before endorsing Mr Drew alongside Dale Vince at Ecotricity’s headquarters in the Stroud town centre.
Sir Tony said: “I have known David for 15 years. I was here for the first time he was elected and I’m back this year determined to make sure he wins again.
“Stroud is a key marginal in this election, and I think there is a really clear choice between the Labour party - who value people, over the Conservatives - who value profit regardless of the costs."
Mr Drew, who was Stroud’s MP from 1997 to 2010, said: “I was delighted to welcome my old friend Tony Robinson to Stroud and I’m honoured that he is backing me for the election.
“We know it’s going to be too close to call between the Tory and myself in the two-horse race to represent Stroud, so every bit of support counts.”
Sir Tony was active in the Make Poverty History campaign, is a patron for UK-based charity Street Child Africa and was knighted in 2013.
