A PETITION to stop the crashes and review the signage on the A429 near Crudwell has been started by a seven-year-old from the village who was affected by a fatal crash last year.

Chloe Horton, seven, explained that her sister Evie was best friends with the daughter of Anthony Jeng, who died in a crash near Kemble Business Park on the A429 in October last year.

After Mr Jeng died, his family was devastated, describing him as caring, loyal and respected, noting his two tours in Afghanistan with the Royal Engineers.

The family moved away from Crudwell after the crash and this left Evie Horton, four, without her best friend Eva, one of Mr Jeng’s daughters.

Sarah Horton, 44, Chloe and Evie’s mother, said Chloe brought the crash up in the car as they drove past Kemble Business Park on the way back to Crudwell one day.

Sarah explained: “She said to me ‘Mummy, we need to do something about this road because it’s ridiculous.’

“She came up to me with a piece of paper and she said ‘This is my petition’ so we decided we’d get people to sign it and then hand it in to the parish council.

“I think the other problem we have is that it’s on the Wiltshire-Gloucestershire border as well. Neither of the councils have done anything and it’s a shame.”

The road runs from Cirencester to Malmesbury via Kemble and Crudwell.

The number of crashes near the crossroads at the Business Park, has raised concerns from residents more than once but this is the first petition requesting a review of the road’s signs.

Chloe insisted on having her say as well and explained that she started the petition to stop other people getting hurt on the road.

She said: “It’s because my sister’s friend’s dad died on the A429 when he crashed into the hedge.”

Chloe mentioned another accident on the A429 in February this year involving a white van but her mother recalled several other incidents, including several fatal crashes in recent years.

Chloe said that more than 60 people had already signed her paper petition and that they all agreed that something needed to be done.

She said: “I think it might be because they known Eva and what happened to her daddy, really.”

She added: “I’d say, do you want someone from your family to get injured on the way to somewhere on the A429?”

Chloe’s petition to stop the crashes and review signage on the A429 has also been launched online.
