THE Wiltshire Football League were beaten 4-0 by a strong Hampshire Premier League side in the Preliminary Round of the FA Inter-League Cup, played at Malmesbury Victoria FC on Saturday.
Two goals in each half gave the Hampshire side a deserved win, though it could have been a different story if the referee hadn’t waved away a strong Wiltshire penalty claim five minutes into the second half with the score at 2-0.
Wayne Kibble’s Wiltshire side were let down by the late withdrawal/non-appearance of the three Melksham Town players selected and had to draft in replacements at the 11th hour.
Unfortunately, the team did not have the chance to play together prior to the game while their opponents had several practice matches under their belt.
The Inter-League Cup is the eighth and newest competition in The FA's portfolio and is now in its seventh season Malmesbury Vics players in the original Wiltshire squad: Sam Packer, Sam Jenner, Ant Brown, Alan Griffin and Allan Webb.
