A 60-YEAR-OLD Tetbury man has denied sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl.
Stephen Edworthy, of New Church Street, pleaded not guilty at Gloucester Crown Court today to nine counts of using his finger to penetrate the bottom of the girl between January 1996 and January 1998.
The defendant also denied gross indecency with the same child under the age of 16 between January 1996 and January 2002.
He was alleged to have put the girl's hand on his groin.
Prosecuting barrister Janine Wood told the court that the defendant had not been well but was now fit enough to plead.
A trial date will be fixed within seven days and the defendant was granted conditional bail.
