MUSIC lovers queued throughout the night to get the first pick of limited editions vinyl in Stroud last weekend.

In celebration of World Record Day, more than 30 people queued outside the Trading Post Records in Stroud overnight on Friday, some from as early as 9pm the night before.

“There was a mad rush when I opened the doors in 8am,” said Simon Vincent, owner of the Trading Post, “It was crazy.”

On World Record Day, artists create limited edition records which are then sold for one day only on a first come, first served basis in independent record shops across the country.

Lovers of seven and twelve inch records in Stroud had their chance to buy exclusive records from artists such as Bob Marley, David Bowie, The Sex Pistols, Deep Purple and Jonny Cash.

The craze started in the USA in 2007 and had since spread across to the UK some eight years ago.

“I wasn’t like Black Friday though,” added Simon. “People in the queue had spoken about what records they wanted, so when the doors opened everyone helped each other find what they were looking for.”

The Trading Post had around 300 exclusive records to sell, all of which were quickly scoped up by music lovers.

Over the course of the day, hundreds of people visited the shop to browse the vinyl and CDs and talk about music.

“Stroud has a fantastic reputation for being a creative and musical place, and I think that came across on Saturday. It was a really fantastic day,” he said.

Trading Post is a well-known landmark of Stroud’s independent music scene and was bought by Simon back in 2002.
