FIVE independent candidates for the Nailsworth Town Council election are joining forces for the upcoming campaign.

Emma Bonner, Anne Elliott, Sally Millett, Debbie Powell and Jonathan Duckworth are all Nailsworth residents who want to make a change to the town they love.

They will be leafleting the town and hope that by combining efforts they can get leaflets to as many as possible of the 6,000 Nailsworth residents.

“We all want to work for what's best for the town and we believe that the five of us working as a team helps us all campaign,” said Sally Millett.

“Delivering to all the houses is hard work and we want to make sure all voters know what we can bring to the Town Council”

Their aim is to give all the residents of the town a voice on Council that can be heard above the political tones of the national parties at the upcoming election.

Emma Bonner said “We’ve already had a leaflet from two candidates, delivered with the Parliamentary and District leaflets, it is so much easier for candidates with the support of a national party! We do hope that people will consider that we aim to represent them locally and vote for us.”

The five candidates strongly feel that decisions should be made that are best for the town, not with an eye on upcoming election leaflets.

“There is a growing feeling that people don't like decisions being made about Nailsworth by members of Council who don't even live here, and we say is it right that people who live outside Nailsworth can decide on our local council tax and what happens in our Town?” said Debbie Powell, one of the new contenders running in this election.

If elected the candidates will listen to and consult more before taking decisions on what they believe is best for all the town’s residents.

Anne Elliott said “We know and love living here and want to keep Nailsworth as a great place to live and work for everyone”.

The five will be at Nailsworth Farmers Market on Saturday April 25 from 9am until 1pm, where residents will be able to chat and get to know them and have their say on what they would like to see happen in the town.

All 11 seats on Nailsworth Town Council are up for election next month.

The election will be held on the May 7, to coincide with the General Election and a District Council seat on Nailsworth.
