A 24-YEAR-OLD man from Stonehouse is among the four Royal Navy sailors who have been released on bail after being charged with sexual assault in Canada.

Craig Stoner, 24, from Stonehouse was bailed along with Darren Smalley, 35, Joshua Finbow, 23, and Simon Radford, 31.

The alleged assault took place last week at a drinking party at the Shearwater military barracks in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

The four men have been charged with one count of sexual assault causing bodily harm and one count of sexual assault committed with one or more other persons.

They were in Canada for an armed forces hockey tournament.

Mr Stoner was released on cash bail of 3,000 Canadian dollars (£1,645).

He must stay at Canadian military base in Nova Scotia, and was ordered to surrender his passport.

The next court hearing is scheduled for May 27.
