MORETON Show is on the look-out for the farmers of the future as it prepares for this year's country event in September.

The show wants to hear from youngsters up to the age of 17 who can bring their cattle, sheep, pigs and goats to one of the country's biggest agricultural shows in a bid to win a coveted title as well as prizes of up to £100.

Moreton Show livestock secretary Lynne Parkes said: "The young handlers are an up-and-coming feature of the show world and showing their animals has become a serious business. It’s also increasingly popular and the young farmers coming to Moreton know the competition will be tough.

"It’s something we try to encourage because this is the lifeline of shows like ours. These young farmers are the future."

A new feature this year is the revival of the Calf Show, for handlers aged 16 and under who will be showing animals aged less than nine months old.

Young handlers can enter on the day of the show up to 12 noon and Moreton Show is anticipating interest from all over the UK. With more than 100 entries likely, classes are often divided to cater for the different age groups.

This year’s Moreton Show is on Saturday, September 5. Visit moretonshow.co.uk for details and tickets.
