MEMBERS of Cirencester Stroke Club were overjoyed to receive £674 through a scheme put in place by supermarket Waitrose.

The club, which has 23 members who have all have suffered from a stroke before, will be putting the much-needed funds towards fun day trips.

Club organiser Margaret Knapp said the whole group was absolutely delighted when they found out. The amount was raised through a Community Matters scheme at Waitrose in Cirencester. After customers go through the tills they receive a green token which they can put into the box of the good cause they would most like to support. The more tokens a cause gets, the bigger the donation they receive and each month every Waitrose branch donates £1,000 between three local good causes.

"We did very well indeed," said Mrs Knapp, who organises the group which meets once a week at Beech Grove Court. "We are self funded. Our club aims to share experiences and help as well as improve the quality of life of stroke sufferers."

The funds will go towards planning a fun day out for the club's members.

"Last year we went to Burford Garden Centre and we are going to Lechlade Garden Centre soon," added Mrs Knapp.
