TWO sisters from Minchinhampton are gearing up to launch a three-piece children’s cutlery set.
When the handle of the plastic fork that Cat Dodd’s daughter was using broke, the three-year-old picked up the fork end and started using it to eat much more effectively.
Cat, 35, had been thinking about designing a children’s cutlery set for a while because of how messy mealtimes were.
And watching her daughter spurred her on to get to work designing a knife, fork and spoon to fit the shape and co-ordination of a child’s hand.
Last year, Doddl won a national competition for Women with Bright Ideas run by the Engineering Innovation Network.
This year they were short-listed for the British Inventors Project run by the Gadget Show.
on their time at the exhibition, Cat said: “We had fantastic feedback and pretty much every one of the 2,000+ visitors who came to our stand thought it was a great idea and a cool product.”
Cat and her sister Rosie Phelps, who handles the business side of the start-up, are now preparing to get their Doddl cutlery manufactured so that they can start making it available to buy.
To fund the costs of making the cutlery set the sisters will launch Doddl on the crowdfunding website kickstarter in May.
