FIREFIGHTERS raced to the scene of a crash in Cirencester on Monday after an elderly man was reported to be trapped in his car.

Two fire engines and eight firefighters from Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service were called to Clark's Lane, near Siddington, in Cirencester at about 5.30pm on Monday after reports that a car had driven off the road and into a ditch, after a crash with another.

It is thought that one of the cars was overtaking the other when the crash happened.

The elderly driver, whose car was in the ditch, was trapped inside his vehicle. Firefighters had to help him free.

Crews worked quickly to free the driver who was then taken to hospital by the South West Ambulance Service. He suffered minor leg injuries.

Firefighters were at the scene for 50 minutes.
