THE political mudslinging has continued this week as parliamentary candidate Paul Hodgkinson accused the Conservatives of pamphlet blunders.

Paul accused David Broad, Conservative district council candidate for Chedworth and Churn Valley Ward, of failing to add a ‘legal imprint’ to an election letter.

A legal imprint shows who is responsible for production of the letter.

The Lib Dems referred the complaint to the Cotswold District Council for improper election practice.

Conservative election manager Jon Burns strongly denied the claims.

He said: “It is quite clear from this letter who is responsible for its production and, quite honestly, I fail to see any case to answer or story.

“The fact that this has been reported to CDC is relatively meaningless and will only result in time of council staff and police being wasted.”

The Conservatives also quashed a Lib Dem claim that they had accidently put up a Conservative election sign in the wrong constituency.

The sign for Cheltenham parliamentary candidate Alex Chalk is within the Cotswold constituency.

Jon said: “It is quite common for supporters of all political parties to display posters on high-traffic sites, even where this falls just outside a particular constituency.

“This particular site is passed by a great number of Cheltenham residents. We are very fortunate to have been inundated with requests to display Conservative boards by local supporters across Gloucestershire and suspect any complaint is borne out of opposition party jealousy and political mischief.”
