A GRANDMOTHER in her 60s was regularly molested by her daughter’s partner for three years before finally telling anyone what was going on, a court heard.

The abuser, who is from the Stroud area and in his 40s, would make sexual remarks to the woman or molest her when her daughter and other family members were close by, Gloucester Crown Court was told yesterday, Tuesday.

The victim told the court she kept quiet for the sake of her daughter and grandchild and made efforts to avoid being alone in the man’s company.

But when she was told he would be attending her mother’s funeral she could not take it any more and, fearing he would assault her there, she told her husband what had been going on, she said.

The man was convicted by magistrates of five charges of sexual touching and sentenced to six months jail suspended for two years. He was also ordered to complete 150 of hours unpaid work, to pay £400 costs and placed under supervision for a year.

This week an appeal hearing was held in front of a judge and two JPs against the conviction.

The defendant claimed the woman had made up the allegations because she did not like him and wanted to split up his relationship with her daughter.

After hearing evidence for two days, the appeal court upheld the conviction.
