IMMIGRATION officers arrested men and women who allegedly had no right to work in the UK after a raid on a popular pub and Chinese restaurant in Whitminster.

The Whitminster Inn and China Garden in Bristol Road now faces fines of up to £140,000 after the raid at 6pm on Thursday.

Two Chinese men, aged 25 and 26, were arrested for allegedly being in breach of their visa conditions.

A Malaysian man, aged 33, an Indonesian man, 26, and two Chinese women, aged 26 and 24, also allegedly had no permission to work in the UK.

Another Chinese male, thought to be a minor, was also said to be found working and is due to be age-assessed by social services.

All of those arrested have been ordered to report to the Home Office regularly while work is carried out to remove them from the UK.

Home Office immigration enforcement officers teamed up with Gloucestershire police for the operation.

The pub and restaurant, which are part of the same business, were served notices warning of fines of up to £20,000 per alleged illegal worker unless they could prove right to work document checks were carried out.

The Whitminster Inn has yet to comment on the incident.
