COTSWOLD organisations have joined forces to plan a series of events around Cirencester for Mental Health Awareness Week.

Throughout the week, which is taking place from Sunday to  Monday May 17,  there will be group and taster sessions on a range of topics, relating to mental health.

Organisations including 2gether NHS Foundation Trust, Cotswold District Council, the Churn Project, Independence Trust, the Cirencester Housing for Young Project , are  organising the events.

As part of the week  a mindfulness bus will be parked in Cirencester Market Place from 9am to 3pm on Friday, May 15, where advice and information about mental health issues will be given from experts.

Bill Wragge, Cotwold District Council, health policy and partnerships officer, said he is keen to promote awareness about mental health locally

He said:“One in four of us will be experiencing a mental health problem at any given time, with some of the most common issues being depression, stress and anxiety.

"There is a lot we can all do to improve our mental health and we want to remind people that there is help available for anyone who needs it.

"We hope that we can get this positive message across during Mental Health Awareness Week and we’d love to see a great turn out at all of the events."

A choir promoting the benefits of group singing will be present for the visit of the mindfullness bus as  will staff from the Wiggly Worm charity,  who be be doing a  healthy food demonstration.

On  May 11, there will be an Information stand at the Corinium Museum on Black Jack Street between 9am and 3pm and on the same day there will be learning diabilities group session between 2pm and 4pm at the Churn Project's, Churn Centre on Dyer Street.

On May 12 there will be an  older people friendship club taking place at the Churn Centre between 2pm and 3.30pm, and the cost is a £1.

And at the centre on the same day there will be a relaxation session beween 11.30am and 12.15pm.
