IMPROVING health services is one of the key aims of re-elected Cotswold MP Geoffrey Clifton-Brown.

On Friday, Mr Clifton Brown, blew second place Lib Dem candidate Paul Hodgkinson (10,568 votes) out of the water, by achieving 32,045 votes to regain control of his constituency

And one of his first jobs going into his five year term as MP, Mr Clifton-Brown is to meet with chief executive and chairman of South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) to discuss reducing ambulance waiting times.

He said that in some rural areas people had to wait half an hour for services to arrive and waiting times could be improved.

“Half an hour is not acceptable - we should be able to do a lot better than that,” he said

“Ambulance staff are also far to reluctant to rely on neighbouring counties such as Oxfordshire and Warwickshire."

He said he wanted to try and get more trained paramedic based in rural areas so they could be called upon if it was taking too long for an ambulance to arrive Mr Clifton-Brown, said that hospital services also needed to be used more in the Cotswold.

He said: “I think we need to make sure that we use Cirencester and Moreton-in-Marsh hospitals as much as we can. I think that both these can be used a little more."

He said that the contract for a theatre at Cirencester hospital is coming to an end at the end of this year and he wanted to work with the hospital to ensure that a private contractors is brought in to run it.

The Cotswold MP will also be leading a consultation on the solution to the A417 Missing Link scheme which was recently approved £250 billion funding.

Mr Clifton-Brown will also be looking at ways he can get extra funding for schools in the area through the capital expenditure funding from the government.

He said: “There are some schools that have disastrous school buildings and some have porter cabins. If some schools are not given it I will be asking why not.”
