CHEDWORTH driver Ian Crisp has raced into the lead of the Kumho Tyres BMW Championship after two race wins at the Snetterton circuit in Norfolk over the weekend, writes Derek John Binsted.

Racing from second on the grid after qualifying, Crisp finished behind only Stephen Pearson who was competing in the invitational class as his more powerful car races in a different series.

Crisp's BMW E36 M3 car won both B class races which were of 20 minutes duration.

Crisp briefly led Pearson in the second race before the invitational driver got the better of him.

Crisp posted a new lap record for his class with a time of 2min 12.037sec representing an average speed of 80.94 mph.

Crisp's next stop in the championship is at Thruxton next month for rounds seven and eight.

Crisp said: "I am delighted with a good weekend's work as the car was going really well."
