A 23-YEAR-OLD woman from Nailsworth has been ordered to pay a fine of £1000 after being found guilty of repeatedly playing her music so loud it disturbed the neighbours.

Ms. Gina Baker, of Beechwood Close, Forest Green, was found guilty at Stroud magistrate’s court of non-compliance with a noise abatement notice on Monday She was found guilty of non-compliance with the notice served by Stroud District Council In her absence, they fined her a total of £660 and ordered her to pay costs of almost £440, a total of £1,100.

The notice had been served to address a noise nuisance caused by the playing of amplified music at extremely high volumes inside Ms Baker’s flat.

The music was loud enough to regularly disturb the sleep of a number of her neighbours and continued for long periods of time, including late at night and into the early hours of the morning.

Even after service of the notice, Ms Baker continued to play her music loudly.

Stroud District Council’s Environmental Protection Manager, Dave Jackson, said: "Throughout this case, council officers have worked alongside the property’s landlord, Places for People, to try to resolve the problem through the application of common sense.

“However, Ms Baker has consistently failed to engage in the process with the inevitable consequence that she was finally taken to court, found guilty and fined.”

“As always, the council is fully committed to using the full legal powers available to ensure that local residents do not have to put up with intolerable noise from neighbours.”
