SNAP happy youngsters from Cirencester Kingshill School are celebrating their magnificent performance in a photographer competition.

Cheltenham Camera Club’s Gloucestershire Young Photographer of the Year Competition asked youngsters from 18 schools in Gloucestershire submit their best shots.

And the accolades were handed to Cirencester Kingshill GCSE Photography students as Rebecca Bowsher beat 268 other students to come first , Alice Beard came second, and Liam Caudle won a commendation.

What’s more the school also won the club’s Best School Entry trophy, which was introduced to the annual competition this year to mark its 150th anniversary.

Rebecca whose submission depicted woods with a kaleidoscope affect, said: “ I didn’t know what it was going to look like in the end but it turned out well.

“I thought it was something nice to do, I didn’t know I was going to win.”

Alice, 16, whose entry showing young men walking in line near Bristol Children’s hospital which she dubbed ‘The Evolution of Man’said:“I was really happy when I found out. I really like taking pictures and I want to keep on doing it.”

Liam,16, explained his 'lost souls' photograph depicted people trapped inside a bottle and said it had taken him hours working on Adobe Photoshop creating the affect.

Ruth Vine head of art who helped co-ordinate what the pupils entered said that she was immensely proud that the school had won the competition as it was only the second year it had entered it.

She said: “It is not just a proud moment for the teachers, it is also a boost for us teachers. ”
