SCOUTS in Cirencester raised more than £100 for the group during a charity car wash on bank holiday Monday.

1st Cirencester Scouts group turned up to the town's Countrywide store in their uniform to spend the morning washing cars, running a tombola stall and selling cakes.

One scout leader Chris Hailstone said: "Huge thanks to Countrywide for their assistance and allowing us to take over their car park. A brilliant morning!"

The scouts group, based in Cotswold Avenue, has been on a fundraising mission ever since their scout hut was trashed by vandals in February half term.

Beaver scout leader Rachael Hailstone arrived at the hut to find faeces on the floor, dropped drug needles and food scattered everywhere.

The Standard reported the crime and soon people from all across town came forward to help the group with offers of money, cleaning products and general support.
