Minchinhampton 46 all out; Cirencester II 47-1

CIRENCESTER seconds made it back-to-back wins with a nine-wicket victory at Minchinhampton which pushed them into third place in the table.

Jake Holmes struck early with his inswinging left arm medium pace, seeing off both openers in his first over and then took a third wicket in his second over.

Minch captain Jamie Waring did take on the bowling with a top score of 18 but it was the continued threat of Holmes, Joel Frost and Sam Frost that brought about the demise of Minch’s batting.

Joel Frost bowled a very tight line in his 2-5 off six overs, superbly assisted by Jon Turner who took a sharp slip catch to dismiss one victim.

Holmes proved difficult to get away and bagged another brace of wickets to take his match haul to 5-32 off nine overs.

Enter Sam Frost, bowling his inswinging medium pace which again provided no opportunity for the batsmen to settle; he took two wickets, both bowled, for no runs.

The final wicket was taken by Jon Turner assisted by a diving Tom Rutter catch as Minch were all out for 46.

Chasing the low score, Rutter was out after showing some determined resistance, which brought Rob Wilson to the wicket.

He then proceeded to smash a no-nonsense 33 ably assisted by Jim Woodcock and Cirencester passed the home side’s total in 11.4 overs for the loss of one wicket to record a near-perfect maximum points victory.
