Ashton Keynes 128-2; Fairford II 127-8

FAIRFORD II suffered their third successive defeat, this time away at Ashton Keynes, where they won the toss and elected to bat before struggling against accurate bowling, a slow wicket and well-placed fielders on a grassy outfield.

An unfortunate run-out off the first ball of the match set the tone for the innings as Fairford’s run-rate barely got above three an over, despite the best efforts of Simon Embleton-Smith (49), David Taylor (23) and Colin Denness (31*). Skipper Tom Waller was the pick of the home bowlers with 3-29 as Ashton Keynes put in a very good team performance in the field.

When the home side went into bat, openers George Ford (41) and James Collister (26) scored more freely than Fairford’s batsmen, although both eventually fell to Denness, one to his best ball of the day, the other to arguably his worst, thanks to an excellent catch at deep mid-off by Aidan Van Der Heiden.

Mike Grier finished matters in the 28th over of the innings, thanks to a lively 42*.
