STONEHOUSE-based Green Gourmet has won an award for their Great British Fish and Chips product which they serve on British Airways flights and Thomson and Virgin Trains.

Created for BA in partnership with DHL, the company won the Packaging Innovation award at a ceremony in Hamburg.

The product enables caterers to tap into the strong global demand for the classic British fish supper.

It also seems to have solved the previous problem of how to keep batter crispy and chips from going soggy when in the air.

Featuring white and flaky, sustainably sourced cod fillet, it is the first consumer ready product for the global travel market to be Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified.

The packaging is ventilated to protect the meal of fish and chips until it is ready to be heated and enjoyed on board.

Meanwhile, Julie Moore, the managing director of Green Gourmet, has been shortlisted in the small business category of the Institute of Directors (IoD) South West Director Awards.

And, to top it off, the food company is celebrating after being selected as a finalist for the West of England Business Awards.

Founded in 1991 by CEO Adam Starkey, Green Gourmet has grown to be a £13 million turnover business with a 38-strong team.

Since being appointed as managing director in 2008, former chef Ms Moore has almost trebled turnover.

Forecasted profits to the year end of June 2015 are anticipated to be the highest in the company’s history.

It has enjoyed impressive growth in both the UK school catering market and in international travel catering, which has led it to it exporting to seven countries.

With roots in school catering, Green Gourmet now services over 125 local authorities and contract caterers.
