AN ENGLISH teacher from Marling School in Stroud has been selected as a finalist for the prestigious Pearson Teaching Awards.

Jayne Southwell, Head of English at the school, was selected as a finalist from thousands of nominations from across the UK.

Mrs Southwell now joins a list of 67 exceptional teachers who are the Teaching Awards “stars” of the education profession for 2015.

Mrs Southwell will find out if she has received an award on Thank a Teacher Day on June 12, 2015.

Winners will then be invited to the star-studded UK final to be held at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, in October 2015 which is filmed and broadcast by the BBC.

Stroud News and Journal:

Outside of the English curriculum Mrs Southwell is regarded as an excellent tutor of her 6th Form tutor group.

In addition, she developed and leads the school debating groups with the same purposeful approach. Her own time is given freely to coach and then transport the school’s debating teams to competitions in the UK and Europe.
