MUSICIAN Matt Black and his neighbours will be singing from the rooftops at a family disco in a bid to halt an unpopular housing development.

The producer of hits like Lisa Stansfield’s People Hold On and Yazz’s The Only Way is Up and his neighbours are aiming to stop a 33-home housing development to keep their village small.

Matt said: “As a villager and a musician I want to contribute to our community by offering uplifting music to inspire us to save Blockley together.

“People have got to hold on to what we’ve got and keep Blockley a village. That’s our slogan and our belief.”

Developer CALA wants to build 33 homes on Little Shoe Broad, an ancient field that campaigners argue is prone to flooding and full of wildlife.

A year ago villagers held a meeting with around 100 people attending, and then formed the Blockley Environment Action Group (BEAG).

Their upcoming event is the disco at St George’s Hall in Park Road, Blockley, this Saturday from 6pm to 11pm.

Entry is £3 and proceeds go to the campaign. Under 14s get in free. There will be food and soft drinks on sale but people are welcome to take along their own beer, wine or other alcohol.
