BRAVE shop worker Adrian Weekes rescued a disabled man from an attack by two teenagers in Stroud.

The shop assistant at the Co-operative in Slad Road ran to the aid of a driver when two boys aged about 18 assaulted him outside the store after stopping their trial bikes in front of his car.

Adrian, 52, was himself attacked by one of the teenagers after he intervened to protect the driver, who was disabled, on Monday afternoon.

"I was in the store collecting baskets to put outside when I heard a car horn go," said Adrian, who has worked at the shop for 16 years.

“I came out and saw the two guys having an argument with the driver in his car. They started smashing his car with their helmets and then the driver got out and they assaulted him.

“I started shouting at them to stop it and then grabbed one of the guy’s arms round his back to stop the fight.”

Mr Weekes, from Stroud, said the other boy then punched him in the face, breaking his glasses.

The driver told Mr Weekes that he only had one lung and was registered disabled.

Mr Weekes added: “If it had not been for me they could have had a right go at him.

“Finally, after I told them I was trying to stop the fight, they backed off and drove away on their bikes.”

The two teenagers were said to be white and rode off towards Stroud on trial bikes, one of which was believed to be red.

The driver asked not to be named.

Police were called by the motorist at 4.05pm and are appealing for witnesses.
