THOSE interested in a plan to bring radiotherapy to Swindon’s Great Western Hospital (GWH) can find out more at an information evening on Monday.

Cancer specialists will speak about the partnership between Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Oxford University Hospitals Trust (OUH), which will see a new OUH treatment centre built at GWH.

Presently up to 700 people a year who need radiotherapy have to travel the daily 70-mile round-trip to Oxford’s Churchill Hospital, often for several weeks at a time.

Attendees at the 7pm event in the Inspiration Suite at Village Urban Resort Swindon can also view centre plans and watch a video of a linear accelerator – a piece of equipment which delivers radiotherapy – in action.

They will learn more about a £2.9m appeal by Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s charity, Brighter Futures, to purchase two linear accelerators for the OUH facility, which, subject to final approval, would be built at GWH.

People wanting to attend the free-of-charge event should call 01793 605631 or send an email to fundraising@gwh.nhs.uk.

Places are limited so those interested are advised to book early to avoid disappointment.
