A BOURTON nurse is all set for her biggest sporting challenge yet to raise money for the charity she works for.

Deborah Davidson, a nurse for Kate’s Home Nursing is taking part in the UK Ironman, in Bolton, Lancashire, on July 19, and has been training hard to complete the three main elements.

These include a 2.4 mile open water swim followed by a 112 mile bike ride, all finished off with a 26.2 mile marathon at the end, all in all covering 140.6 miles in a day.

Kate's Home Nursing, a charity provides free Hospice at Home nursing care for patients in the last stages of terminal illness, receives some official funding but the majority of its income comes from  charitable donations and fundraising events.

Being involved first hand with the patients and their families at such difficult and sad times, gives Mrs Davidson an insight into just how important it is to support people who wish to die at home.

Not only can they die peacefully at home surrounded by the people they love but knowing this last wish has been achieved can help enormously with the family's grief.

Competing in the ultimate triathlon event is a way of giving something back to the charity which Mrs Davidson says is a huge privilege to work for.

With an average of three to four hours' training six days a week, which has to be juggled around work and a busy family life. However Deborah feels that it will be worthwhile if she can help raise funds for Kate’s Home Nursing.

She can be sponsored through her just giving charity page which can be found at: https://www.justgiving.com/ironwoman-debs/
