A RECORD number of pooches are expected to be entered in the ever-popular Companion Dog Show, staged at the Moreton-in-Marsh Show on Saturday, September 5.

The Companion Dog Show, is held under Kennel Club Rules (group that issues the rules for conformation dog shows) and includes obedience classes as well as opportunities for man’s best friend to show off their appealing eyes and waggiest tales.

Prize's include one given to the dog judges would most like to take home.

As part of the show, dogs will take part in the Fun Scurry, which sees the dogs scamper over an obstacle course against the clock to retrieve a training dummy.

Diane Dewbery, who owns Pet Necessities Ltd in Moreton in Marsh and has organised the Dog Show for 20 years, said: “Dog shows are growing in popularity as people love showing off their pets and I fully expect the numbers to go up this year.

“We had more than 80 dogs enter last year and with 16 classes this time, I can see that figure rising. We are a nation of dog lovers and people love dog shows.”

“It can get quite competitive, especially in the obedience classes because children often come to the show after lots of training sessions at home.”

Moreton Show is one of the country’s biggest one-day agricultural shows, with more than 2,000 farm animals, 350 trade stands and the very best locally produced food.
