A GROUP of Stroud residents travelled to the capital on Wednesday, June 17 to join the biggest ever UK lobby on climate change.

As part of the Speak Up For The Love Of Climate Lobby, more than 9,000 people from around the country descended on Westminster to meet with their MPs to press the government to take action on the environment.

The group from Stroud of about 20 people, including councillors, met with their MP, Neil Carmichael, by Lambeth Bridge.

Vaughan Webber, from Gloucestershire Climate Action Network, said: “Our meeting with Neil was very productive. We discussed concerns such as alternative energy, fossil fuels, fracking, developing our low-carbon economy, emissions reduction targets, and stressed to him the importance of the Paris talks in December."

Mr Carmichael said: “I was delighted to meet so many constituents.

“Britain is leading by example and the government’s Energy Act is premised on the need to de-carbonise its energy sector – something on which we all can agree."
