STROUD Waitrose’s Community Matters Team has got tails wagging all over the Cotswolds with a donation of £379 towards the building and establishment of the Cotswolds Dogs and Cats Home (CDCH).

The money was raised by asking Waitrose customers to make a choice between three nominated charities by placing a green token in the box with the name of their preferred charity.

Each of the three charities then shares in a £1,000 donation. The scheme, which originated in 2008, has so far raised over £14 million for good causes throughout the country.

Community Matters spokesperson for the Stroud branch, Wendy Light said: “We know how important our customer’s pets are to them and we were delighted to play our part in helping the Cotswolds Dogs and Cats Home become a reality.

“We hope that many others will join us in supporting this wonderful cause to provide a safe place for thousands of animals in need.”

Carolyn Blackburn, chair of CDCH said: “We are so pleased that so many people put their green token in the box for the charity.

“Every day we see animals that have not been fortunate enough to find a loving and caring home so it’s heart-warming to know that so many people do love and care for their pets and want to see others being equally happy.”

She urged others to take part in the campaign which, having raised over 80 per cent of its target, is now very close to completion. She said: “Please do take some time to help us, give a donation at any of our charity shops, have your own Paws for Coffee morning, volunteer some time to help us at our events or at one of our shops – every penny moves us one step closer to opening the centre which will be a haven for animals for generations to come”
