SO WHERE will we put 2,000 houses?

With all the impending developments in the Cotswolds and north Wiltshire, it's comforting that we might actually get a say in where this one will go.

But which really is the better option; Kemble airport or Chesterton?

The same argument seems to crop up whenever we try and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of both areas; infrastructure.

People are worried that the roads won't be able to handle a sudden influx of around 3,000 cars, and that the sewer system could buckle after thousands more homes are connected to it.

There are concerns that there are not enough school spaces for hundreds of new children, and not nearly enough jobs going for the thousands of adults moving in.

Doctors surgeries will be overwhelmed and public transport will become more crowded than it already is.

MP for the Cotswolds Geoffrey Clifton-Brown said last year that Cirencester's infrastructure was "limited" and would need to be improved greatly before the substantial Chesterton development could go ahead.

But Cotswold District Council has expressed concerns that Kemble airport is too isolated a location, not close enough to the nearby villages and lacks vital services and facilities.

It will be interesting to see what comes out of the public consultations. We need to decide which option will be best for our current townspeople and also the future residents of the Cotswolds.
