A TEAM of pupils from Chalford Hill Primary school battled to victory in the final of Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust’s Wildlife Quiz.

The six-strong team of nature-lovers battled it out on Monday evening against Longney Church of England Primary School and North Nibley Church of England Primary School.

After several rounds of questions on topics from ecosystems to identifying different birdsongs they emerged victorious and were awarded a special trophy.

Head teacher at Chalford Hill, Corinne Martin said how proud everyone at the school was of the team for their great achievement.

“The team did so well to beat over 100 different schools from across the county, it’s an amazing accomplishment.

“The final itself was a nail biting experience, as the Chalford Hill team ended up winning by just one point.

“Many of the questions were extremely tricky, so they did fantastically to emerge champions and represent their school in the county.

“We are quite an outdoor-focused school and I think that is reflected in our team’s success in this nature quiz.

“We also have to thank our parents, many of whom who took pupils to experience countryside areas and learn about nature firsthand.”

She added there would be a special award ceremony in front of the whole school on Monday morning, where president of Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust would officially present the Chalford Hill team with their trophy.

Dr. Gareth Parry from Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust, who attended the final, said: “The quiz masters and audience were astonished by the knowledge of the teams and it was a nail-biting contest.

“For the Wildlife Trust it is reassuring to know the future of Gloucestershire’s natural environment will be in good hands.”
