IT SEEMS totally unfair and unthinkable that some schools in the UK should be given more money than others.

All children are important and all children deserve the same opportunities. Why should some schools receive thousands of pounds more in funding per year, when others are barely scraping by?

This system needs to be changed, and fast, before it does serious damage to the futures of thousands of pupils in places like Gloucestershire.

Our government has a duty to make sure each and every school has a decent amount of funding to provide a good education for all children – whatever their age, background, or learning ability.

And it’s not just the children who are disadvantaged. Schools are hastily cutting back to make sure education is not affected - but this means laying off staff.

The teachers who are lucky enough to stay in their jobs are suddenly faced with a much larger workload; more children to teach, more homework to mark and more lessons to plan.

Those who have been made redundant have no choice but to find a teaching job elsewhere. But with schools all across Gloucestershire struggling, will they even be able to find a job here? Or will they be forced to uproot their life and family by moving to a school miles away which receives more funding?

We need action before our schools reach breaking point.
