A MINUTE'S silence will be held at Brimscombe and Thrupp Football Club in memory of a stalwart committee member and fan who died of cancer last month, aged 66.

Stanley Thevenin, of Slad Road, Stroud, worked at the Carpets of Worth factory in Thrupp for over thirty years and volunteered at the football club from 2011 - after having had back surgery and being registered disabled.

A bench will be also be installed in Park Gardens, Slad Road, in memory of the popular Stroud father who had three daughters, Michelle, 39, Coraley, 32 and Hailey, 30 - and one son, Daniel, 36, as well as ten grandchildren.

Widow Mrs Thevenin, 57, of Slad Road, Stroud, said: "Stan was a good friend, devoted husband, and a wonderful father.

"He was the sort of person who would talk to anyone and everyone.

"After being registered disabled in 2000, his work at the football club gave him a purpose in life again.

"He never missed a match."

The minute's silence will be held at a pre-season match when Brimscombe and Thrupp play Forest Green Rovers on July 18.

There is also a memorial match planned for September which will raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Mr Thevenin was diagnosed with cancer in December 2014 and was told it was terminal in March 2015.

He passed away on June 9.

Before the diagnosis in December 2014, he enjoyed a ten day holiday in Mexico with wife Gillian.

Mrs Thevenin added: "He was a very active man and loved playing football and golf.

"He also loved his tan and was probably known as the most sun tanned person on Slad Road."

A packed church at All Saints Uplands, full of family and friends, attended an emotional funeral service on June 26.
