AS the nation’s GCSE and A Level students begin the anxious wait for their results, the Exam Results Helpline is preparing to help and advise thousands of parents and young people.

This is the twenty sixth year that the Department for Education has been funding the Exam Results Helpline, hosted by UCAS, and it’s estimated that over that period of time the helpline has supported a staggering 150,000 people!

Education Secretary Nicky Morgan said: “We know summer exam results can be a stressful time for pupils and their parents and it is important they have access to high-quality advice.

That’s why I am proud to support this helpline, which provides expert guidance to young people as they make important decisions about their future.

Whether they are going on to further study, starting an apprenticeship or entering the world of work, we want to help all pupils make a successful transition into adult life.”

More than 6,000 people called the helpline last year alone for advice on a number of topics including re-sits, re-marks, higher education, careers advice, apprenticeship guidance, vocational qualifications and gap years.

Nick Hynes, Exam Results Helpline consultant and professional careers adviser with over 25 years' experience, said: "Every year, there are students who don’t get the grades they need for university, there are those who achieve better grades than expected and those whose career plans have changed since they made their original university choices.

“At such a critical and life changing time, it’s imperative that these students are clear what ALL of their options are, enabling them to make fully informed decisions about their futures."

The Exam Results Helpline is poised to help again and will be open for an extended 12 days this year to cover both A Level and GCSE results day and can be reached on 0808 100 8000.
