A QUICK-THINKING neighbour prevented a possible tragedy after an arson attack at a disabled woman’s home in Stroud.

Police believe that a mobility scooter was deliberately set on fire outside a property in Bisley Old Road at around 4.30am on Saturday July 18.

This in turn set the side of the house on fire, causing damage to the property.

Fortunately teaching assistant Miriam Luckhurst, 47, heard a loud bang, saw the flames and woke up the occupants of the house which included two young children.

She said: “I heard a popping sound I actually thought it was a gunshot.

“When I looked out of my window I could see flames up the side of the house.

“My flat overlooks the bungalow and I could see the roof had caught fire.

“I called the fire brigade who had already taken another call so I rushed outside and banged on the front door of the house, I couldn’t get to the back door where the fire was.”
