OUR Facebook friends would have received a notification on Friday that Julian Harvard would indeed be bringing lilies to market and it proved to be thus – a huge display of lilies which were breath-taking to say the least.

Aside from the lilies there were also wonderful dark red flocks and sunflowers.

The season continues this Saturday so get there early flower fans.

We have managed to track down some local honey for this coming Saturday.

Trout fans will remember that, aside from the fish, Donnington Trout farm also had honey that they produced.

Trout man Gordon retired from the fish farm and is now focussing on his bee keeping and will be bringing his produce this Saturday.

All the honeys he sells are from bees kept at apiaries in the north Cotswolds.

They are all prepared with the minimum of processing needed to present them in jars.

He will be bringing three different seasonal blossom honeys – a spring soft-set honey, a clear light summer honey and an unusual autumn honey.

Down on the organic aisle we are delighted to welcome Newark Farm back to the market after their hungry gap lay off.

Famed for their organic potatoes amongst other things Newark will have Javelin and desirée varieties of new potatoes; not to be missed.

Also returning this Saturday after Ramadan is Saira’s south Asian savouries with their delicious range of snacks such as puri, pakora, shingara and samosa as well as chilled curries to take home.

Other, irregular stalls of note this week include Goat’s Maid Soap, which is really nice; awesome cake stall Faithfull’s Quality Baking who are attending monthly since joining with Christmas cakes last autumn but who also make a range of other favourites; Big Horn Biltong who are on the wave of a new healthy meaty snack movement with their free range biltong; and, of course, I couldn’t conclude the column without mentioning the soft fruit bonanza that is happening at the market at the moment with strawberries, raspberries, gooseberries, redcurrants, blackcurrants and cherries all available.
