A VILLAGE in Brittany celebrated their annual village fete with a firkin, or cask, of beer from Stroud Brewery.

Nine imperial gallons of Entente Cordi-Ale specially brewed by Stroud Brewery was taken by the Bisley with Lypiatt Twinning Association to Plessala on Thursday, July 23 for their annual exchange over the weekend with their French twin commune.

Since 2007 it has become customary to take a firkin of Stroud Brewery beer on these visits - the ‘Biere Anglais’ always goes down well.

Bob Brooks, a member of the Bisley-with-Lypiatt Twinning Association, said: “The Breton hosts are generosity itself and the festivities included fireworks and much hearty eating and drinking.

“The Bisley Twinners had a rollicking good time.”

The Bisley with Lypiatt Twinning Association is a thriving, friendly group with members drawn from several villages around Bisley parish and even Stroud itself.

They meet five or six times a year for suppers, quizzes, musical evenings and other events to raise funds for the exchange visits to France.

In alternate years the Plessala Jumelage visits Bisley to enjoy a taste of Gloucestershire hospitality.
