DEVELOPERS who were refused permission to build 17 homes off Pike Lane, Nailsworth, have lodged an appeal.

The application by Newland Homes was refused by Stroud District Council in January.

Chris Davies, of Save Nailsworth Valley, which was formed to fight the plans, said: “There was fierce opposition to the original application, with more than 800 letters of objection from people opposed on grounds such as increased traffic, wildlife and the fact that having a green valley so close to the centre of Nailsworth is what makes the town so attractive.

“Yet once again, as with so many other applications, like those at Minchinhampton and Grange Fields in Stroud, the development juggernaut keeps on rolling. We will keep on fighting.

"We believe that this is a valued landscape and we will be making that case to the planning inspector on behalf of supporters of SNV."

Mr Davies wants anyone opposed to the plans to email their views via savenailsworthvalley.co.uk by August 8.

A spokesman for Newland Homes said: “We were given positive feedback from SDC planners when we first discussed the site with them, and it followed this feedback that we progressed the planning application.

"We always produce excellent developments in the Stroud district and have successfully built much needed homes across the region for many years.”

The appeal will be dealt with at a hearing. To comment on the application go to planningportal.gov.uk/pcs by August 17. The reference is APP/C1625/W/15/3053120.
