SWAPPING pearls for a pig Dorothy Scott, a farmer in Stroud, has appeared on the frontispiece of Country Life magazine.

Traditionally the Girls in Pearls feature has exhibited aristocratic young women announcing their engagement.

The posh page three, as it is known, has previously also featured the likes of the Queen, Princess Anne and Zara Phillips.

But after throwing in her job at Harvey Nichols overseeing the shipping of luxury brands to the UK, Dorothy, 25, moved to Stroud with her boyfriend and business partner, Charles Murray, to hand rear free range and rare breed pork.

Wearing a red dress and Hunter Wellingtons she is pictured holding one of her 24 pigs, a Gloucester Old Spot called Ginger.

“I hope that the stereotypes of what women should naturally go into will change,” Dorothy said.

“In 10 years time it shouldn't be surprising for a woman to be a pig farmer or anything else they wish to do.”

With no background in farming Dorothy has had to start from scratch learning about how to keep pigs.

“Everyone we come into contact with is extremely helpful and I've learnt a lot very quickly,” she said.

Her business, Dottie’s Pigs, supplies Gloucester Old Spot, Saddlebacks, Large British Whites and Tamworth Pigs.

Commenting on the photo shoot Dorothy told the SNJ: “Ginger was wriggling a lot.”

“He enjoyed his treat after the shoot though.”
