PSYCHIATRIC reports have been ordered for a man who admitted an attempted arson attack on a woman’s home in a block of flats.

Wade Wills, aged 33, of Westward Road, Stroud, pleaded guilty to attempting to commit arson when he appeared at Gloucester Crown Court on Monday.

The property in Acre Street, Stroud, was targeted on March 31.

It is claimed that Wills pushed a burning rag through the letterbox.

The court was told that in 2006 Wills was given just a 40 per cent chance of surviving appalling injuries he suffered after being hit by a car. He was left with serious head injuries, a broken back, fractures to both legs and three ribs, internal bleeding and a collapsed lung after the accident, near the Cotswold Edge Golf Club in Wotton-under-Edge.

His defence solicitor asked that, in view of the serious head injuries he suffered at that time, there should be psychiatric and psychological reports on him before he is sentenced.

The judge, Recorder Jeremy Wright, agreed and adjourned sentencing until September to allow time for the reports to be prepared.

In the meantime, Wills was remanded in custody.
