STUDETNS at Thomas Keble School have earned another set of high achieving results with 14 students achieving the very highest standards of an overall average of a grade A / A*.

Over 24 per cent of students achieved the national benchmark of three or more A*/A grades with eight students achieving a clean sweep of A*/A grades across the board, further evidence that students who choose to study at Thomas Keble can excel at the highest level.

Students continued to do well in terms of progress with both English and maths reporting achievement well above the national level and 59.3 per cent achieving a C or above in both English and maths GCSEs.

67 per cent of students achieved five or more A*-C grades with 58 per cent achieving five or more A*-C grades including English and maths.

It is particularly pleasing to note that Thomas Keble students have exceeded national figures in terms of achievement in English and maths and 20 per cent of all grades achieved across all subjects were A*/A grades this year.

Julia Maunder, head teacher, said: “My congratulations go to all our students who have earned such excellent results this year.

“Our principle of inclusion at Thomas Keble has ensured that all students, regardless of ability, have received widespread and comprehensive support to stretch and challenge their expectations and achieve their very best.

“I would also like to acknowledge the hard work of staff and parents in supporting our young people throughout their time with us.

“I am incredibly proud of all our students and in particular those who have worked hard to overcome personal adversity and challenge to achieve such fantastic results.”

Stroud News and Journal:

Today was an extra special day for Thomas Keble pupil Samantha Lane (above).

On top of achieving great GCSE results she was also celebrating her 16th birthday.

Wearing a big “happy birthday” badge she happily explained how she’d got four As, six Bs and one C.

“It’s a really great birthday present,” she said with a huge smile.

“My hard work paid off, I’m so happy. I’ve spoken to my parents this morning and they are both so pleased.

“The nerves really kicked in this morning but know I’m so relieved.

“It’s great to see everyone here so happy and all my friends have done well too. All our teachers are here to see how we did which shows just how much they care.

“I’m planning to go out for a meal tonight with my family to celebrate.”

But the celebrations had to wait for the 16-year-old from Bussage, as she has pre-season training with her netball team at Hartpury College this afternoon.

As well as playing wing defence for the prestigious netball academy she also has a regular spot on the Stroud ladies first team.

“I’ve been playing the sport since year two, so it’s something I’ve always loved and would like to keep playing in later life,” she said.

A career in sport is something Samantha is considering after she finishes Hartpury College - where she is excited to begin her studies in study English language, maths, catering and PE in September.

“Right now I am thinking about physiotherapy – it’s something I’m really interested in at the moment, but that’s still a long way off!” she added.

Stroud News and Journal:

Hard work also paid off for 16-year-old Thomas Keble student Tom Gill (below).

Months of revision and commitment earned him six A*s, four As and one B.

As lover of science and music, he achieved his highest grades in his favourite subjects; maths, business and communication systems, biology, chemistry and music.

The Bussage resident is now set to start Marling Sixth Form in two weeks to study physics, maths, computing and politics.

“I’m over the moon, I never thought I’d do this well,” he said.

“I was quite nervous last night and it only got worse this morning. But it’s great to see everyone here; all my friends did well to so I’m so happy for them.

“I’m looking forward to starting at sixth-form in September, but in the mean time there still a couple of weeks of the summer left so I’m going to make the most of that first!”

The 16-year-old doesn’t yet have an idea of what he wants to do in later life, but is sure he wants to go to University.
