THE HAWKER HUNTER aircraft which crashed into several vehicles during Shoreham Airshow on Saturday was piloted by a man who works for a firm which has previously run flight experiences at Cotswold Airport.

Pilot Andy Hill, who works for Ultimate High, which ran flight experiences at the airport up until three years ago, is now in a critical condition in hospital after the plane crashed into a main road while performing a loop at Shoreham Airshow.

Following the incident eleven people are dead, another is critical in hospital and the number of injured is believed to be 14.

Assistant chief constable Steve Barry, of Sussex Police, said: “The pilot, who was freed from the wreckage yesterday, remains in a critical condition in the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton. Others who were injured have all now been treated for their injuries.

“This has been an enormously traumatic incident and our thoughts are with everyone who has been affected by the incident, from those who have suffered bereavement to those in the local community who are deeply shocked. I would like to pay tribute to colleagues in all of the emergency services, partner agencies and the organisers whose compassion and professionalism in the most extreme of circumstances has been widely commented upon.”

The plane was built at Kingston-upon-Thames as an F4 and flew first in July 1955.
