MP for the Cotswolds Geoffrey Clifton-Brown is helping an Andoversford car repair centre improve its  facilities and increase the number of apprenticeships it provides.

Autotec Classic Cars in Andoversford, provides repairs for vehicles ranging from modern and classic everyday road cars to specialist luxury cars.

Owner of the firm Richard Roberts, contacted Mr Clifton-Brown asked him to visit to talk to him about the concerns he had about the lack of skills in his trade and the motor industry.

Mr Roberts wants to increase the number of apprenticeships at his company but is concerned that the relevant skills do not exist in younger generations.

As a result of the visitMr Clifton-Brown  has written to skills minister, Nick Boles MP, on Mr Roberts behalf and will now be putting him in contact with GFirst, Gloucestershire’s Local Enterprise Partnership who help the  county produce skilled tradesmen.

Mr Clifton-Brown said “The sort of specialist service provided by Autotec Classic Cars is exactly the type of skill set our education system should be providing, and it is disappointing that Mr Roberts has been unable to find qualified apprentices.

“It is crucial for our economic recovery that young people are taught necessary skills across a wide range of industries I will continue to support all measures that are aimed at achieving this. I have now put Mr Roberts in touch with the LEP and I hope that they will be able to work together to tackle this problem and I look forward to being involved in that process. ”
