Fans of Laurie Lee’s Cider with Rosie have a chance to buy a unique woodland in the heart of his beloved Slad valley.

Rural affairs specialist Ben Compton from Bruton Knowles has been appointed to market Worgan’s Wood – a mixed broadleaf woodland covering some 35 acres in the heart of the valley two miles north of Stroud.

Mr Compton said buyers were likely to be longer term investors or people looking for a slice of one of the most beautiful Cotswold valleys.

“This purchase might be a question of heart ruling head," he said.

"It is a totally private, mainly beech woodland.

"Owners can take a walk and enjoy the trees and quiet glades.

“We feel that the unique content and location will outweigh the non-commercial nature of the woodland.”

A favourite with artists, Worgan’s Wood is accessed from a single track no through road called Folly Lane, with Gloucester eight miles and Cheltenham 11 miles away.

Mr Compton added: “We have buyers looking for land for all sorts of purposes at the moment and this extraordinary opportunity will certainly appeal to many of them."
