THE footpath which allows residents to walk into Meysey Hampton has been refurbished thanks to funding from the county council.

The refurbished footpath along the A417 leading to the village, which has upgraded curbs has been designed to give easier access to the local bus stop.

Highways funding is given to each county councillor to spend on improving roads in their area and the county.

Shaun Parsons, county council ward councillor for South Cerney, spent his allocation for highways funding which is given to each councillor on the footpath scheme.

The work was also part funded from two years of Highways Local budget, was completed earlier this month.

Cllr Parsons said: “I’m delighted to help Meysey Hampton residents travel more safety in and out of the village. As well as a better footpath they’ve now got easier access to the bus stop too.”

Vernon Smith, cabinet member for roads said: “I’m really pleased to see Highways Local funding being put to good use in this part of the Cotswolds.

“Improving roads in the county is an absolute priority for us and I hope it will make a real difference to local people.”

Chairman of Meysey Hampton Parish Council, Roger Case said: “On behalf of the village and particularly the residents of Greenacres, I’d like to thank the county council’s Highways Local Scheme for getting the pavement completed. What a huge difference it makes.”
