NOMINATIONS have poured in over the past few weeks and now it is time to reveal the finalists for the Standard’s Pub of the Year competition.

As part of the competition launched at the beginning of August, the Standard asked readers to nominate their favourite pub in the Cotswolds to be a finalist in the contest.

The Standard has teamed up with Cotswold MP Geoffrey Clifton-Brown to offer the winning landlord a prize of a trophy and the chance to spend a day in Westminster – where they will be able to serve their own brewery’s beer at a bar inside the Houses of Parliament.

A flood of nominations were received for 16 pubs across the district, but after all the entries had been counted, the ones with the most supporters, and therefore the five finalists, are: The Royal Oak, Tetbury; The Bakers Arms, Somerford Keynes; The Wild Duck, Ewen; The Thames Head Inn, Cirencester; The Golden Cross, Cirencester.

They will now be profiled in the paper, and readers are being asked to place their votes once again and nominate their favourite pub, to be crowned Pub of the Year.

Mr Clifton-Brown said: “I’m delighted to be partnering with the Standard to promote our Cotswold pubs, which are some of the best in the country. ”

If any of the finalists have wowed you with their great customer service, selection of ales, mouth-watering menu or fantastic staff, then vote for them now.

To vote for one of the five shortlisted pubs, complete the coupon in this week’s Standard and send it to Pub of the Year Competition, Wilts & Glos Standard, 74 Dyer Street, Cirencester, GL7 2PW.

Please note that you can only vote by using the coupon. Nominations previously sent in for a finalist will not count as votes.

Votes have to be in by Thursday, October 1, and you can vote as many times as you like.
