AROUND 200 campaigners have gathered outside the buildings of Gloucestershire County Council in Gloucester to protest against the possibility of fracking in the county.

The peaceful demonstration was organised by anti-fracking group Frack Off Our Forest after a licence was awarded to explore for oil and gas in Sharpness last month.

Councillors have voiced concerns that the proposals would impact across Stroud district, with a ten kilometre potential zone of impact covering from Thornbury in the south to Hardwicke in the north.

Concerns have also been raised that the zone of impact would affect the wetland nature reserve at WWT Slimbridge.

However, supporters say fracking could help to reduce energy bills.
